Overview: Ourika Valley is a pleasant village where many walking paths and treks are located. The authentic mountain trek which leads to a cascade of 7 waterfalls is an absolute most do. Ourika is located 60km from Marrakech, in the foothills of the High Atlas. Due to its many Berber villages, waterfalls, and several attractions, it is one of the most popular day trip destinations from Marrakech. Ourika Day trip from Marrakech is picturesque, featuring a lush river valley with typical Berber huts made of baked clay and stones. Despite its proximity to Marrakech, Ourika is still considered relatively untouched by tourism and modern city life.
Temperatures are cooler in the shadow of snowcapped High Atlas peaks, and this blooming valley is a little more than 50km south of Marrakesh is the city’s escape hatch from the soaring summer heat. The valley is especially mood-altering from February to April, when almond and cherry orchards bloom manically and wildflowers run wild.
Sadly Ourika’s beauty and easy accessibility have lead to significant development, which now threatens to mar its mountain-valley vibe. At Oulmes, makeshift cafes and BBQ joints line the riverside strung together by flimsy rope bridges that allow day-trippers to cross the river, while at the end of the valley sits a summer resort and the well-worn trekking base of Setti Fatma.
Ourika Day trip from Marrakech will allow us to experience the beauty of the Ourika Valley and its beautiful landscapes of green meadows, 16th and 17th-century Berber villages and escape the hustle and bustle of Marrakech for the day. Ourika valley is a favorite weekend getaway for local people that is appreciated for its beautiful landscapes and waterfalls. It is one of the many typical valleys of the High Atlas Mountains known for its its fruit trees, tiny Berber huts, riverside restaurants, high green terraces, surrounding Atlas peaks, rocky village foothills and the 7 waterfalls that surround the village.
Departure by a 4WD car from Marrakech around 9 in the morning for 1 hour to Setti Fatma to feel the refreshing waters of the 7 waterfalls, driving through many berber villages and the valley of ourika with several stops along the road for pictures. Once we arrive to Setti Fatma, we will have our lunch and take a short break alongside some of the pretty trails, climbing up rock carvings to the first waterfall before we drive back to your accommodation in Marrakech.

My husband and I spent 5 days traveling Morocco with Isma/Ismail. He is a gem and I can't rave about him enough. The airline lost my husbands luggage.... read more Isma made sure to help us navigate getting his luggage back 5 days later. That's just the beginning. Right away I felt like I knew Isma for years. His positive outlook on life may the trip even better. He drove us from Casablanca to Fez to the Dessert to an area near Quazzaete, Markech and back to Casablanca. The car was so comfortable. Spending so much time with a stranger was a concern. However, Isma made it seem like we were traveling with another friend. He provided us with so much history about Morocco and took us to hidden villages that I would have never seen. He planned the perfect itinerary for us. We are Orthodox Jews. Morocco is a must see destination, full of varied culture and ancient history, and we really scored having such an amenable and intelligent guide/driver to care for us along our way. We started our travels in Marrakesh, traveled north to Casablanca and Rabat, then to Chefchaouen, the blue city. In each location we stayed Ismael met us when needed, helped with our bags, gave directions, but what was the most wondrous for me was that he let me find my own way when I desired, within the comfort and security of his watchful eye.
After we left Chefchaouen we saw Volubilis and continued on to Merzouga and the desert dunes. The camel ride was so fun getting to our tent in the desert, with the sun setting behind us the photo op was tremendous, with orange dunes and camel-ride shadows, just amazing After the desert dunes, driven safely by Ismael in a way I am still in awe of, we made our way to Amazigh (Berber) country, where Ismael was born and raised. Suffice it to say that our trip in Morocco was more than could be desired, we visited everything on the plan, and we were able to insert our own desires as each day ensued. We saw so many things off the beaten track, things that exist right next to the normal tourist track. We finished our trip back in Marrakesh and made our flight without a fuss, Ismael safely driving and avoiding any slowdowns we might have encountered.
I highly recommend Ismael. He’s an intelligent, educated man with a sensitivity towards his wayfarers that, in my somewhat extensive experience traveling the globe, is not often seen.
